Cukurova University is located between the coves formed by Seyhan Lake, which are wonders of nature, and forests, and covers an area of 20-thousand hectares. The campus of Cukurova University is one of the largest campuses in Turkey. Adana Faculty of Agriculture established in 1969 within the structure of Ankara University, and the Cukurova Faculty of Medicine established in 1972 within the structure of Erzurum Ataturk University, are the first departments initially established under the roof of Cukurova University. Cukurova University was officially established in 1973. Starting its journey with just 2 faculties to become a autonomous university, Cukurova University has now 18 faculties, 4 schools, 12 vocational schools, 1 state conservatory, 4 institutes and 37 research and application centres. Apart from Cukurova University, Alparslan Turkes Science and Technology University, which has been rapidly developing despite being newly established, gives education with 9 faculties, 2 institutes and 1 college.
While Cukurova University, having one of the largest campuses in Turkey, and Alparslan Turkes Science and Technology University give education, Baskent University continues to provide health services along with education with its hospitals.
Adana has significant human resources in the field of education with the power it gained by its universities. In 2018-2019 academic year, 54,737 students have studied at Cukurova University while 2,450 students have studied at Alparslan Turkes Science and Technology University. 2,507 faculty members work in these universities, 507 of which are professors. Approximately 60,000 college students affect positively the city’s atmosphere
There are sufficient institutions and organizations in Adana, related to gastronomy giving formal education. Public Education Centres within the structure of Provincial Directorate for National Education and Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools meet the needs for education in this field. 134 courses in 13 different fields of food and beverage preparation are organised in Public Education Centres and 2080 trainees attend these courses. Gastronomy trainings are being provided in Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools located in Adana. The number of Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools with food and beverage preparation departments is 12 in total and the number of students getting training in these institutions is 1252. One of the most important schools among these is Nezihe Yalvac Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. This school aims to train intermediate staff for tourism sector, to provide the companies active in tourism sector with trained staff and to meet the needs for qualified staff in tourism sector. The school, which provides training in food and beverage services (kitchen and service branches), also has a practice hotel for practical training.
“Kebab Academy” organised to teach how to prepare Adana Kebab, which is described by people living in Adana as “essential” properly, graduates approximately 100 students every year. People who want to master in making Kebab come from various cities, participate in mastership training lasting 2 days, arranged by Adana Chamber of Commerce (ATO), Adana Kebab Protection Commission. Kebab maker candidates are trained by master kebab makers at the academy opened at ATOSEV Facilities for 2 days. The master kebab makers from Adana explain the selection, preparation, spitting, cooking and presentation of the meat to be kebab to the kebab maker candidates. Excepting all the regular gastronomy, mastership and food and beverage preparing and serving trainings in Adana, course programs and trainings are also organised.
